Ballyshannon native Gary Ward signed in the summer of 2008 from Letterbarrow Celtic to provide needed competition for the goalkeeping position. The stopper was in excellent form during the 07/08 season, and had notched up a number of clean sheets. Gary became a regular custodian for Copany and a vital reason for the promotion winning Copany side of 08/09.
Indeed his importance to the promotion side of 08/09 was highlighted at the Club Presentation Night, where he scooped the Player of the Year award as well as the Players' Player of the Year award.
Gary continued to be first choice stopper in the 10/11 campaign, turning in a number of quality displays as he again ran close for Senior Player of the Year, and almost grabbed a goal in the last game of the season against Whitestrand when his clever backheel bounced off the post. Maybe next year!
