League 28/09/08 @ 2:00PM -- Downtown United 1-4 Copany Rovers -- Darren Kilpatrick (1, 62, 67), David Graham (70) -- Venue: Letterkenny VEC Pitch
A hard working Copany side eased to a four-one away victory over Downtown United in Letterkenny, with Darren Kilpatrick netting a hat-trick for the Cobras.
The Cobras opened the scoring with the first attack of the match, when Darren Kilpatricks effort from the edge of the area squirmed past the Downtown keeper with barely 20 seconds on the clock.
William Given thought he had doubled the away sides advantage on 25 minutes, but his free kick was ruled out because the indirect free kick went straight into the corner of the net.
Five minutes later, the away side had another goal ruled out. David Graham was sent free down the right, but his curling effort hit the post, and as Aaron Scott put the rebound into the net, the whistle was blown for offside.
Downtown eventually put some pressure on the Copany defense at the start of the second half, forcing a succession of corners, but found the Rovers defense well marshalled.
Copany grabbed their second goal, and one which effectively killed off the contest, on 62 minutes, with Darren Kilpatrick curling the ball expertly into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box.
Darren Kilpatrick completed his hat-trick when he was sent down the right hand flank five minutes later, and he finished calmly from the edge of the area.
Lone striker David Graham got his name on the scoresheet three minutes later, when he turned in a Gary Harron center, to cap a goal his hard-working performance deserved.
Downtown grabbed a consolation with twelve minutes left on the clock when they scored following a corner kick.
