League 30/09/07 @ 2:00PM -- Bonagee United 1-2 Copany Rovers -- Paul Clarke (36), Paul McGroary (81) -- Venue: Dry Arch Park
It took a late Paul McGroary thunderbolt to maintain Copany's 100% start to the season after a tough encounter with Bonagee United in Letterkenny.
Copany Rovers dominated proceedings from the off, and Eoghan Gorman was unfortunate not to put the away side ahead after 3 minutes when he broke free of the Bonagee defense, but saw his effort go agonisingly just wide. Copany continued to dominate and really should have been at least two or three up after 25 minutes. The closest they came to opening the scoring was when Eoghan Gorman hit the post following a neat through ball from Paul Clarke.
Copany eventually took the lead on 36 minutes, when a pin-point Darryl Duncan cross from the left hand side was headed into the net from six yards by Paul Clarke, notching up his seventh league goal of the season to leave Copany one-up at half time.
It was a different Bonagee side who came out in the second half, and they began to control the play as Copany failed to find their rythem. It was no surprise when Bonagee levelled the scoring after 56 minutes, when the Bonagee striker slotted the ball beneath Joe Gallagher following some good work down the left hand side.
Indeed Bonagee were unlucky not to take the lead shortly afterwards, when Joe Gallagher made an excellent point blank save to deny a Bonagee striker who was clean through on goal.
However, it was Copany who gained all three points with ten minutes to go, when substitute Paul McGroary picked up the ball just inside the Bonagee half, and rifled a 30-yard thunderbolt into the top corner of the net, much to a relieved Copany management team. Copany then sat back and protected the narrowest of margains to gain an important three points.
