After both suffering opening day defeats, the first local derby of the season between Copany and Drumbar was played in wet and windy conditions at Killowen Park, where a large slice of lady luck in front of goal helped as Copany impressed to a fine win.
With the aid of a strong breeze, Copany had the upper hand for the first period of the match and took the lead when Paul Clarkes low corner was sliced into the net for an own-goal on 14 minutes.
With the wind advantage, Copany continued to push looking to add to their tally, however Drumbar starting to get going after the half hour point, and they put the home side under pressure, with Gary Harron unlucky to see his effort from the edge of the area fizz just the wrong side of the post, and Enda Brogan unfortunate to see his effort flash across the goal on the stroke of half time.
Copany got a boost on 53 minutes, doubling their advantage through a deflected effort from the always dangerous David Graham.
Gary Harron fired over from close range for Drumbar, and soon after the visitors grabbed a lifeline in the encounter on 68 minutes, when a flighted cross from Davy Crawford evaded everyone to nestle in the corner of the net.
Brian Travers made the game safe for Copany when he broke into the area and fired into the roof of the net on 70 minutes, again via a deflection giving Joe Gallagher no chance in the Drumbar nets.
Brian Travers and Thomas Given were best in a fine overall display by Copany, with Davy Crawford best for Drumbar.
