COBRAS THROUGH TO AREA FINAL

Russells troops are through to the Area Final of the Brian McCormick Sports Cup after a strong second half showing against St. Catherines in Killybegs on Wednesday night.

The home side got off to a dream start when, following a corner kick, the ball was dispatched home after 3 minutes.

The Fishermen played some good stuff in the first half as the Cobras struggled to impose themselves in the game.

Copany suffered a double injury blow before half time, requiring Brian Travers and Lee Doherty to be replaced by Paul Patton and Damien O'Laughlin.

Copany played like a different outfit in the second period and Paul Clarke equalized when he received the ball back from an incomplete cross from the right, and dispatched the ball into the roof of the net with his left foot.

The pace of Ryan Kerrigan was causing the home side problems, and when he broke the offside trap he was never going to be caught, and he lifted the ball of the keeper to give the Laghey men the advantage.

David Graham made it 3-1 to Copany when he raced through and finished well at the near post for a fine goal for the Cobras.

St. Catherines pulled one back as they put on the pressure but Copany held on for another excellent victory.

Excellent second half team performance.
