Match Report
COPANY continued their pre-season endeavours against St Catherine’s on Wednesday night - ultimately going down 4-3 after a penalty shoot-out.

The Laghey side showed plenty of heart to secure a scoreless draw in this game, against opponents who play their trade in the division above the Cobras.

However, Copany had to dig deep at times to ensure the game remained deadlocked - with St Catherine’s threatening to overrun them at times.

In the first period, Russell Gorman's side started nervously and took time to settle into the game - with a number of players making silly mistakes on the ball, clearly still lacking sharpness at this early stage

After the first 20 minutes, the team began to break into their stride - and played decent football at times.

David Graham was lively up top, and was well supported by wingers Glen Harron and Lee Doherty.

The Fishermen always looked dangerous on the break though, and Stephen Doherty had to be called into action a number of times.

The second-half followed the same rhythm as the first - with Copany, missing a raft of players, on the back-foot for long periods of time.

Defensively, the performance improved as the game wore on - but chances on goal were few and far between.

New signing Colin Mulhern chased and harried well after his introduction - and livewire Graham offered an outlet on the left wing.

After holding on for a well-fought draw, Copany were dumped out of this tournament on penos.

Graham sent his strike wide of the upright with the first strike of the shoot-out, but Copany recovered with captain Aaron Scott, Paul Patton and William Given all netting.

Sub keeper Andrew Wilson pulled off a superb save to give the Cobras a chance of victory, but it wasn’t to be.

Substitute Conall Rooney's strike was parried by the opposition keeper, before Killybegs sealed the deal with the winning strike.

However, Copany, already missing Daryl Duncan due to knee ligament damage sustained the previous week, suffered more injury problems late on with full-backs Niall Boyle and Kieran Brogan both forced off.
