Match Report
Plenty of heart and spirit was not enough for a Cobras side, lacking a little confidence, to get a result against Raphoe Town.

This match was a very-cagey affair early doors, with both 'keepers untested early on.

The change to a 4-4-2 left Copany with a much better shape and balance, and they took the lead with a quick paced counter-attack up the right hand side on 20 minutes. Paul Patton slid a through ball down the flank for the eager Glen Harron, who produced a moment of excellent awareness to drive the ball across the six-yard box and leave Padraig Rooney with the easiest of chances to caress the ball home from close range.

The well worked goal certainly had the Copany faithful impressed, with Daryl Duncan in a particulary jubilant mood celebrating with the water bottles, Paul McGrory doing crutch-aided somersaults, and Denis McMullin recreating Marco Tardelli's 1982 World Cup Final goal celebration.

Things almost got better on the 26th minute, when the lively Padraig Rooney made a chance out of nothing with his pace and tenacity, stroking the ball past the 'keeper but finding his effort bounce off the post and hacked to safety.

Paul Patton then almost got his name on the scoresheet when he headed over following some familiar wing-wizardry from David Graham.

This was to be as good as it got for the Cobras, as old deficiencies prevailed in a lacklustre start to second half proceedings.

Darren Kelly levelled matters five minutes into the 2nd half, when he slotted home well following some sloppy play by Copany.

However, Raphoes second was a well worked goal in truth. A free-kick was glanced on and John Sweeney headed into the corner of the net.

Copany created several half-chances after this as Raphoe visibly got nervous, but couldn't find a way past the Raphoe defense for the 2nd time.

A good effort by Copany, who were best served Gary Ward, William Given and Padraig Rooney.

A two week break from games could perhaps be beneficial for the Cobras, who will hope to get their season up and running in the island of Arranmore in three weeks time.

Referee Denis O'Donnell had a fine game in a good natured competitive encounter.
