In difficult conditions, an unfortunate Copany side succombed to their third defeat in a row after a visit to the Island. A dominant second half display was not enough for the visitors, as Arranmore hit a winner 15 minutes from time to secure the three points. The long grass and strong breeze did not assist playing conditions. Playing against the expected elements in the first half, Copany started brighly and dominated the proceedings in the first twenty minutes, with the ever lively David Graham working his magic in the opposition half, and he spurned two decent early chances following quick breaks by the Cobras, with Padraig Rooney also snatching at an effort when well placed inside the Aran box. Belatedly Arranmore grew into the match, and when their talisman Gavin McGlanaghy pounced on a loose pass, he produced a moment of class to send a thunderous volley from fully 40 yard which cannoned off the underside of Gary Ward's goal and away to safety. Copany responed to Arranmores dominance in the middle of the pitch, where they were outnumbering the hosts by one in the middle, by dropping Padraig Rooney into the center of the park and moving David Graham into the middle of the park also. Despite not creating too many chances, Arranmore continued to have the better of the play, and broke the deadlock on 42 minutes when a corner kick was flicked home from short range. With the assistance of the wind in the second half, Copany pegged their hosts back for the majority of the second half, but despite having much the better of play, struggled to create clear-cut openings for the elusive equaliser. Aaron Scott had what appeared to be a legitimate penalty shout turned down on 60 minutes, but despite being kicked on the ankle - which forced his subsequent withdrawl - nothing was doing as the referee played play on. The Cobras welcomed back Daryl Duncan from an extended injury layoff as his replacement, and he had an immediate impact after coming on, when he flicked on a through pass to fellow substitute Glen Harron, who produced nimble footwork to deceive two markers, before expertly drilling the ball into the bottom left hand corner from the edge of the area, despite his body shape for the shot suggesting he was going to finish to the right. A moment of deceptive magic, or a miskick?! Absolutely a moment of deceptive magic.... according to Glen, son of Copanys first league goalscorer Roy Harron. With the Cobras dominating at this stage, it looked like it was simply a case of one point or three as they searched for the winner. Arranmore had alternative views however, and when a cross came in from the left, the ball was sent home from close range in a rare second half attack. Arranmore nearly doubled their lead near the end but a good defensive block put paid to Aranmores hopes of a third. James Walsh impressed and looked very composed at the back on his seasonal debut, with William Given man-marking Gavin McGlanaghey very well, David Graham lively in left and center midfield, Glen Harron dangerous on the left when introduced, and Padraig Rooney fighting admirably for the cause throughout. Despite understandably not passing the ball well enough in difficult conditions, Copany will feel very unfortunate not to have taken not one, but three points, in a match they dominated in the majority.
