Copany grabbed their first league win of the calendar year thanks to Lee Doherty's clever finish late on. The Cobras continued learning experience was emphasized pre-match by Aaron Scott, who learned that Copany doesn't in fact begin with a 'K' and had to duly give the Keadue match ball back to the opponents. The absent Liam McGirr would certainly have been proud of that one. Copany started this encounter very brightly, and in the opening 30 minutes created a number of clear-cut chances to put the game to bed, as they played some of their best football of the season so far. Stand-in captain Paul Clarke put the ball in the net on 16 minutes from a David Graham center but was ruled offside. Copany deservedly took the lead on 22 minutes, when Paul Patton man was first to react to a flick on, and emphatically buried the ball into the net from 12 yards. Adrian Sweeney began to dominate in the center of the pitch from the 30th minute onwards, and provided Keadue with a platform to begin to dominate, and they grabbed an equalizer on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot after Gary Ward mistimed a challenge. Adrian Hanlon duly buried the ball into the corner of the net. The Cobras were forced to work hard in the second half, as Keadue began to dominate the midfield, particulary thanks to that man Sweeney - who showed that he has not forgotton his GAA roots by making one particulary impressive field catch in the middle and bizarrely winning a free kick for his troubles. Keadue pushed hard for the winner but found the Copany defense in fine form, and the Cobras took the lead on a counter attack with five minutes remaining to seal the three points, the ball finding its way to Lee Doherty, free on the right hand side of the box, who produced an expert finish to a chorus of groans - followed by cheers - by the Copany faithful. Quite strange, obviously some people must have been hit by this coupon-buster. The ever-progressing James Walsh was best for the visitors, producing a colossal performance at the back to easily marshall the pacy Adrian Hanlon and dictate the beginning of a number of Copany attacks. For Keadue, Adrian Sweeney controled the midfield for large parts in an impressive individial display. The lack of soup taking the gloss off a good day for the Cobras. Cian 'Duck' would certainly not have approved.
