A strong first half showing laid the platform for the Cobras first win in Killowen Park in 15 months.
A strong first half showing laid the platform for the Cobras first win in Killowen Park in 15 months. Thomas Given put the home side in front on 5 minutes when he pounced on a defensive miscommunication to slot home from 6 yards from a Paul Clarke throw in. Bonagee equalised on 14 minutes when Charlie Creevy nodded home a cross from the right. David Graham restored Copanys lead when his speculative effort from range somehow found the net on 26 minutes following another Clarke throw. With Clarke leading the line expertly, Aaron Scott probing in midfield and David Graham at his menacing best down the left, Copany had the wind in their sails and gained a two goal cushion before the break when Aaron Scott turned home a Thomas Given center on 38 minutes. Bonagee came out all guns blazing in the second half and were unfortunate not to find the net early on with Gary Ward making three vital stops in the Copany goals. But it was only a matter of time and Jerome Burke scored Bonagees second when he fired home from the edge of the area on 61 minutes. Bonagee found their leveller on 64 minutes when Chris Gillen pounced after Gary Ward turned a shot against the crossbar. Copany grabbed the seventh and final goal of the encounter on 68 minutes, when a well weighted Aaron Scott through ball found the nippy David Graham, who finished with aplomb for a deserved second goal, and the home side held on despite more Bonagee pressure to secure the three points. Gary Ward, Aaron Scott and David Graham had good outings for the home side, a team effort from Bonagee who played well in the second half but will rue defensive deficiencies which have all but cost them in their push for the playoff spot.
