Copany suffered a heavy defeat to local rivals Donegal Town, losing by five goals to nil on the new surface at The Hospital Pitch in Donegal Town. The early stages of this match saw both sides size each other up, but it was Donegal Town who took the lead on 34 minutes. A misguided looping cross put Stephen Doherty on the backfoot, and although he did well to keep the ball out of the net, an onrushing Donegal striker was free to nod in from close range. Four minutes later, The Cobras were up against it, as Paul Clarke was harshly shown the red card after an innocuous collision with a Donegal Town defender, much to both players bemusement. The unfolding events seemed to get to the Copany players, and as their heads dropped, JP Byrne doubled Donegals advantage with a close range header after he was allowed far too much luxury in the box on the stroke of half time. A double subsitution at the break did little to quell the tide of wave after wave of Donegal attacks in the second half, and they scored three without reply in the second period. Copany however, will feel all of the goals scored in this game were avoidable, and will need to raise their game starting next Sunday against St. Catherines. Copany Team: Subs: |
