South Donegal rivals Copany and St. Catherines played out a one-all draw in what is a rare league meeting between these two sides at a damp but in great shape Killowen Park. The Killybegs men started brightly and almost opened the scoring after 26 minutes, but found Gary Ward equal to the task in the Copany nets. Copany took the lead on 51 minutes, when a long kickout by Gary Ward was latched onto by James Walsh, who beat the defender and goalkeeper to the ball, and lifted the ball into an empty net. The lead however was short lived, and St. Catherines equalised through Gerry McCabe on 53 minutes, who had the simplest of tasks finishing from four yards after being well played in by the winger. Copany introduced David Graham on the hour, and he caused real danger for the Cobras throughout, almost scoring with his first touch but saw his lob graze the crossbar and later hitting the post with a free kick. St. Catherines almost nicked the three points at the end, when a well flighted free kick was headed just wide. Best for the Cobras were Darren Kilpatrick, William Given, and David Graham, with David Conwall and goalkeeper Kevin Martin impressive for Killybegs. Copany Rovers would like to thank todays match sponsors, O'Carolans Bar, Laghey. Referee: Liam Farren Copany Team: Subs: |
