League 26/10/08 @ 2:00PM Kerrykeel '71 Club 0-3 Copany Rovers Aaron Scott (53), Eoghan Gorman (55), David Graham (64) Venue: Fanad
The Cobras got a much needed three points when they made the long trip to Fanad to play Kerrykeel, and came away with an excellent three goal victory in terrible conditions. With the aid of a swirling breeze, that favoured the team playing from left to right, Kerrykeel had most of the play during the first half, and came closest to opening the scoring in a tense first half when a striker cannoned the ball against the crossbar. Despite being under the cosh for the opening half, the Cobras had a golden opportunity to open the scoring ten minutes before the break, but Eoghan Gorman saw his effort from inside the box expertly saved by the Kerrykeel stopper. The Copany defense, marshalled by the collossal William Given managed to stop everything thrown at them, to leave the scoring goalless after the first 45 minutes. With the strong breeze now in their favour, the Cobras signalled their intentions three minutes into the second half. William Given, playing like Pele at this stage, dispossesed his opponent, before turning and skinning him. He then fed Shane Walsh in the left back berth, who played a neat one-two with Aaron Scott, before feeding the ball expertly through to David Graham, who beat the offside trap, but saw his effort go narrowly wide the wrong side of the post. Sensing the opportunity, Copany attacked and won a corner after 53 minutes. Aaron Scott bent the corner in wickedly, and let the wind do the business to carry the ball directly into the roof of the net. Three minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage. David Graham's inswinging corner was punched to the edge of the area, where Eoghan Gorman was on hand to expertly rifle the ball into the roof of the net with a fine half-volley for his first of the season. David Graham put further gloss on the scoreline when he rifled the ball into the net from the edge of the area following yet another corner kick. Great team performance by the Cobras, with Gary Ward, Eoghan Gorman, Stephen Walls, Christopher Doherty and Aaron Scott all excelling. However, man of the match goes to William Given who was outstanding at center-back, especially in the first half. Copany Team: Subs: |
