League 23/11/08 @ 2:00PM -- Copany Rovers 2-0 Cranford United -- Eoghan Gorman (23), Francie Johnston (47) -- Venue: Killowen Park
A hard working Copany side had an impressive win over Cranford, in a game played in very poor weather condititions on a Killowen Park surface in good shape for the time of year. Cranford had the first real chance of a tentative opening twenty minutes, when Mick Logue found the ball at his feet following a corner, but couldnt direct his left footed shot past the Copany keeper from close range. Copany took the lead on 23 minutes when David Graham made a run down the left flank, and squared the ball for the speedy Eoghan Gorman. Gorman dinked the ball over the outrushing keeper to put the ball in the net. Straight from the restart, a great long range drive from thirty yards nearly got Cranford level, but Joe Gallagher made a great save to tip the ball around the post. Aaron Scott had a chance to double the hosts advantage on the stroke of half time, but his curled effort from the edge of the area fell the wrong side of the post following good build up play from Francie Johnston. Copany doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half. Gary McCafferty played a ball into the wing, which Francie Johnston got on the end of, and he delightfully chipped the 'keeper from outside the box. Cranford upped the tempo, and had the majority of the play for the second half, but found the Copany rearguard in resolute mood. Two good team efforts, with the cutting edge of the Copany forwardline the difference on the day. Referee: Seamus McGroary. Copany Team: Subs: |
