League 14/12/08 @ 2:00PM -- Copany Rovers 3-2 Downtown United -- Darren Kilpatrick (6), Francie Johnston (29, pen), David Graham (65) -- Venue: Killowen Park
It took a lot of hard work, and a large slice of luck, for Copany to grab all three points against a spirited Downtown United in an absorbing encounter at Killowen Park. The home side got of to the perfect start when they took the lead after 6 minutes. Good work by Francie Johnston and Shane Walsh down the left put Darren Kilpatrick through one-on-one with the keeper, and he slotted home from close range. Downtown had their fair share of possession after this, but Copany went two nil up when Francie Johnston netted from the penalty spot after Aaron Scott was tripped in the box after 29 minutes. Downtown came out all guns blazing in the second half, and created chance after chance, but couldn't find the end product to match their often good build up play. Copany grabbed their third after 65 minutes against the run of play, when Francie Johnston cleverly played David Graham through, and Graham lashed home for his sixth league goal of the season. The Letterkenny men once again began to dominate, and were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty on 72 minutes. Charlie Creevy slotted home from the spot. Two minutes later, the visitors reduced the deficit to one goal. An excellent run and cross by Francie Friel left Danny Conaghan with the simplest of chances to slide home at the back post, but Copany managed to hold on to grab the all important three points. Francie Johnston and Aaron Scott performed well for the home side, with Francie Friel starring for the impressive visitors. Referee: Seamus McGroary Copany Team: Subs: |
